WhatsApp is developing a new privacy feature that will allow messages to disappear automatically after being read, giving users greater control over their conversations.
The messaging platform, owned by Meta, is working on the update according to WABetaInfo, which tracks upcoming WhatsApp features.
The new option is expected to roll out in a future Android update and is designed to enhance user privacy by limiting how long messages remain visible.
Under the feature, messages can be set to disappear 15 minutes after they are read. If a message is never opened, it will automatically vanish after 24 hours.
The update aims to provide stronger privacy protection, particularly for sensitive content such as passwords, one-time codes, or confidential information shared in chats.
Currently, WhatsApp allows users to set disappearing messages with timers of 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. The new feature introduces a much shorter time frame, offering more precise control.
Users will also be able to apply the setting either to individual chats or across all conversations, adding flexibility to privacy management.
The feature remains under development and has not yet been officially released, but it is expected to be included in an upcoming update for Android users.
