WhatsApp has announced a new feature that allows users to convert voice messages into written text.

This feature, designed by the Meta-owned platform, aims to assist users in noisy environments or situations where they cannot listen to audio messages.

According to TechCrunch, Apple has already implemented a similar feature for its iMessage app with the release of the iOS 17 update.

To enable the new feature, users must access the app’s settings, navigate to the "Chats" section, and select "Transcribe Voice Message" to activate it.

Once enabled, users can convert voice messages into text by long-pressing the audio message and choosing the "Convert to Text" option.

It’s important to note that the feature does not automatically transcribe all incoming voice messages. Instead, transcription is available upon user selection.

WhatsApp confirmed that the feature will roll out globally in the coming weeks, supporting specific languages based on the operating system and its version.

iOS 16 and Above: Supports English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic.

iOS 17 and Above: Expands to include Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, and Thai.

Android Devices: Currently supports English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
