WhatsApp plans to launch two new features exclusive to iOS users, including a tool that lets users extract text from images while the other will enable them to set voice notes as a status update.
The announced features have apparently been under testing for some time but they are now more widely available for all iPhone users.
WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp started rolling out the ability to extract text from images to all iPhone users running iOS 16. The software version is mandatory because the feature uses iOS 16 APIs to detect and extract text from images.
The website previously revealed that WhatsApp is developing the ability to transcribe voice notes in order to make it easier for users to read voice notes if they couldn’t listen to them.
These transcriptions are always carried out locally on the device by downloading relevant language packs and are never shared with WhatsApp or Apple so you’re still the only that can listen to the content of your voice notes. However, the feature may only work on recent versions of iOS, according to the report.
Earlier this month, the messaging app unveiled new user-friendly features to enhance the user experience, including multi-section, emojis, mute calls, expiring groups, and more.
