A state of controversy sparked through the social media after a number of posts were circulated by users of the Fawry App for electronic payment solutions and digital financial services in Egypt, stating that the application had been hacked and data has been breached, including credit cards that had been linked to the application.

According to many users, they explained that the “MyFawry” service was hacked and a misunderstanding occurred, which led to the complete disruption of all individuals’ credit and debit cards.

A number of banks sent warning messages to customers against using the application. At the same time, a protection company had published a warning hours before Fawry in Egypt and a company in China joined as the latest victims of the Dark Web hack.

One of the alleged victims said: “Changing the password is not enough, and deleting the application is also useless. Even locking your account on “MyFawry” is of no use. This is because the data for your credit card was stored in the hacker’s database. Since the hackers seized all the information, deleting your card from the app will not delete it from the database itself."

He added: “What should you do? The only solution I really see is to have your card blocked by the bank and replaced with a new one. I'm not sure if you deleted your card from the app it would be deleted from the database itself.

"Hackers have the full card numbers, the three numbers on the back of the card, and the expiration date, and that's enough for them to take advantage of it financially. So, you should cancel your current card and get a new card from the bank.”

However, Fawry denied any rumors that its database has been breached, and that its information system was hacked.

The company confirmed in a statement the efficiency and security of its services.

Meantime, the app wasn't working for several hours, during which the breach was reported, and no one really knows what happened during these breathtaking moments.
