The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) reported on Monday that Israeli forces fired on one of its aid convoys at a checkpoint in central Gaza over the weekend. The organization condemned the incident as "horrifying."

In a statement, the WFP described the attack as "unacceptable," highlighting the increasingly dangerous conditions under which humanitarian agencies are operating. The convoy, which was "clearly marked," had obtained "all necessary clearances from Israeli authorities" before the attack occurred on Sunday.

"Security conditions in Gaza must urgently improve to ensure lifesaving humanitarian assistance can continue," the WFP emphasized, calling on "all parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilian lives, and guarantee safe passage for aid."

The convoy was struck by at least 16 bullets, but none of the eight staff members traveling in the three vehicles were injured or killed, according to the WFP.

Despite this, the organization described the incident as a "terrifying encounter," underscoring the significant risks aid workers face while delivering critical food and supplies to those in desperate need across Gaza.
