Adverse weather conditions across the United Kingdom have caused significant disruptions at the start of the Christmas holiday season, with strong winds forcing the cancellation of several flights and ferry services.

The UK Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for high winds, which came into effect on Saturday and are expected to last until 9 PM on Sunday.

PA Media says these warnings cover Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and parts of England, including the North East, North West, South West, West Midlands, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, and Hampshire.

London Heathrow Airport reported the cancellation of "a small number of flights" due to strong winds and airspace restrictions.

British Airways, one of the major carriers operating from Heathrow, cautioned passengers about potential disruptions throughout the weekend.

The severe weather has also affected maritime transportation, with ferry services facing delays and cancellations.

Passengers across the country have been advised to check travel updates before heading out.

Meteorologists warn that the strong winds, combined with seasonal high travel volumes, could exacerbate delays and cancellations.

Travelers are encouraged to stay updated on the latest weather advisories and plan their journeys accordingly.
