A graveside funeral service and military funeral honors for Egypt's former first lady Jehan Sadat took place on Friday, July 2021 at 4:00 PM at the Unknown Soldier Memorial, in Naser city, Cairo.

Jehan Safwat Raouf, 81, passed away on July 9, 2021. She was the loving wife of late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat.

The symbolic ceremony was relatively short, typically lasting no more than 10 or 15 minutes. It included a number of gun salutes, the playing of taps, and the presentation of a folded Egyptian flag.

The former first lady is well known for her seminal works, such as the autobiography “A Woman Of Egypt,” and “My Hope for Peace,” about the Arab-Israeli conflict and the rise of Islamic extremism, which she said was contrary to the true spirit of the religion.

Also, Sadat instructed at a number of American universities, including the University of South Carolina, Radford University, and the University of Maryland.
