The US Department of Justice said former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted for his actions during the storming of US Congress on January 6, 2021, according to the American Washington Post.
This comes as two Capitol Police officers, with the participation of 11 Democratic Representatives, seek to hold Trump accountable for the psychological and physical injuries they suffered during the storming of Congress.
Trump has argued that he is protected from that lawsuit by the absolute immunity he enjoys as a president in the performance of his official duties.
The lawsuit was brought under a law passed after the American Civil War in the 19th century to deal with the white supremacist group "Ku Klux Klan", which allowed compensation for damages when force, threat, or intimidation was used to prevent government officials from performing their duties.
