The Washington Post reported that US Department of Homeland Security officers have shot and killed people during arrests or at protesters demonstrating against their operations 16 times since last July.
As with the recent shootings in Minneapolis, the Trump administration publicly justified each incident before investigations were complete.
The newspaper noted that most of these incidents involved shootings of drivers during traffic stops in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, where the Department of Homeland Security has increased the presence of federal immigration officers.
At least 10 people were shot, including four US citizens, and three were killed.
These shootings have raised serious concerns not only because of their violence but also because of the Trump administration's response. The Washington Post quoted lawyers as saying that officials rushed to file criminal charges against those who were shot, even though prosecutors dropped the charges in four out of ten cases, or a judge dismissed them after evidence emerged that contradicted the government's account of events.
