Prominent Algerian novelist Waciny Laredj is planning to sue the makers of the Egyptian TV series "The End" for stealing his latest novel, "The last Arab 2084".

Laredj also launched a media campaign, during which he announced the details of the similar parts in the work and its basic ideas, which bears a striking resemblance to the events of the series.

Laredj started the campaign first through a live-stream broadcast on his personal account on social networking website Facebook, then with an article written in the pan-Arab daily newspaper “Al-Quds Al-Arabi”, from which Arab news outlets websites and newspapers circulated the story.

The prominent novelist explained that there is a difference between quoting as well as being affected by the work and to share creative thoughts, and deliberately stealing.

The novelist did not pay much attention to the matter until after receiving many messages from his readers and followers, who noticed the great similarity between the novel and the drama production that was screened in Ramadan.

“The case is being turned to the Egyptian judiciary and the International Court of Copyright through a lawyer from the literature house that published the novel and through a lawyer from the International Agency for the preservation of copyright and I will not be silenced because it is a scandal,” Laredj told “SEE” in a statement.

"I didn't find a reason to contact the author, because it is not a matter of debate. I shall accuse of producer, not the author because he is primarily responsible for the work," he added.

TV series "The End" caused a huge uproar since its official trailer as it is the first sci-fi production to be presented in the Arab world, especially since it made its entrance into the genre with TV series. It is based on an idea by the series leading actor, Youssef El Sherif, which was written by Amr Samir Atef, and directed by Yasser Samy.

The series is set in a period far away from the present, where its events lay in the year 2120. It revolves around the Arabs and the apocalyptic events following the emergence of the "Antichrist", who seeks to destroy humanity, meanwhile, robots try to rule humanity and control energy.

The events are located in the city of Jerusalem, which was freed from the occupation after the annihilation of Israel.

It is worth mentioning that Laredj, born on August 8, 1954, is a well-known Algerian novelist and professor of literature. He teaches at the Central University of Algeria and the Sorbonne University in Paris.

Laredj published works written in Arabic and French; his novels are translated into many languages. He won many prestigious literary prizes, such as the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel and the International Prize for Arabic Fiction.

Laredj is best known for “Rimad Mariem”, “Mamlakatu al farasha”, “The Prince Book”, and “Touq Al Yasmeen”.
