While the Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan is preoccupied with his foreign ambitions, health institutions in Istanbul are warning citizens and visitors against the risk of scabies infection.

A number of Turkish cities are witnessing nowadays an unprecedented outbreak of the disease and a rise in infection rates especially in light of the shortage of medically necessary drugs.

Istanbul Chamber of physicians affirmed that there is a significant increase in scabies infection rates in the city, calling on citizens to be careful.

Secretary-General of Istanbul chamber of physicians Osman Ozturk attributed the disease prevalence to the high resistance gained by the disease against treatment.

The Turkish ministry of health warned of scabies disease spread in a number of Turkish cities and called on citizens to hurry to any hospital immediately if they experience any of the disease-associated symptoms.

In an official statement, the ministry added that the disease can be transmitted through hand-touching or using the same bed within a period of 15-20 minutes, explaining that the disease symptoms appear within 3-6 weeks after infection.
