European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Saturday that Russia must support a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine that could lead to a lasting peace.
In remarks reported by France 24's English-language broadcast, von der Leyen reiterated her support for Ukraine's agreement to a ceasefire. She emphasized that Russia must now demonstrate its willingness to back a ceasefire that results in a just and lasting peace.
She further stated that efforts will continue to strengthen Ukraine and its armed forces, while Europe will intensify its defense initiatives by rearming, leading to increased defense spending.
