European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has emphasized the urgent need for negotiations to end the war in Iran, expressing deep concern over the ongoing conflict.

According to a report by the BBC on Tuesday, Von der Leyen stressed the vital importance of reaching a negotiated settlement to halt hostilities currently impacting the Middle East.

During her meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra, the EU official noted that several European Union member states are preparing to provide assistance in securing the Strait of Hormuz once the war concludes.

She highlighted the strait’s critical significance to global energy supply chains.

"We are all feeling the ripple effects of fluctuating gas and oil prices on our businesses and communities," Von der Leyen stated, reiterating that the strait remains a global lifeline for energy security.
