Virgin Australia has announced the suspension of all flights to and from Bali, Indonesia, due to volcanic ash spewing from Mount Lewotobi.
The airline confirmed that the volcanic activity, which has made air travel unsafe, led to the cancellation of several flights on Wednesday.
Mount Lewotobi, located on the Indonesian island of Lembata, erupted multiple times on Saturday, sending a column of ash as high as nine kilometers into the air.
This significant volcanic event has caused widespread disruptions in the region’s air traffic.
In a statement, Virgin Australia confirmed that the ash cloud posed a significant risk to aviation safety, particularly affecting routes to and from Denpasar International Airport in Bali.
The airline revealed that up to 15 flights between Australia and Bali were impacted by the decision.
With this latest announcement, Virgin Australia joins two other major Australian airlines, Jetstar and Qantas, in suspending flights to Bali due to the ongoing volcanic threat.
These cancellations have left many travelers stranded, with disruptions expected to continue until the situation improves.
