Vietnam and Russia have reached an agreement to develop a major railway line connecting the two nations via China and Mongolia, in a move set to enhance transport connectivity and deepen regional economic cooperation, according to VNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The announcement was made by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk during talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to TV BRICS.

Under the plan, transport enterprises from Russia, Vietnam, and China will begin coordinated work on the project in 2025. Financial arrangements will be managed jointly by specialised agencies and private-sector partners.

The planned line, which will span more than 2,200 kilometres, is expected to carry exports from Russia’s Tuva region, Mongolia, and southern China.

Beyond its economic potential, officials believe the project holds strategic value for both Moscow and Hanoi: it is poised to bolster Russia’s standing within the Eurasian transport network while helping Vietnam expand its logistics infrastructure and seaport capacity.
