Veteran Egyptian Cinematographer Ramses Marzouk Dies at 81

On Friday, Egyptian cinema lost one of its prominent figures.

“Veteran Egyptian director of photography Ramsis Marzouk passed away at 81 due to health problems,” Ashraf Zaki, head of the Actors’ Syndicate, announced early Friday.

Marzouk, the Arab world-famous Egyptian cinematographer and actor who died early this day, was born on 1 July 1940 in Cairo, Egypt.

The actors’ Syndicate mourned the death of the late artist. In the same context, the renowned Egyptian actress Nashwa Moustafa, the leading star Khaled ElNabawy, the maven screenwriter Abdel Rahim Kamal, and also a number of TV stars and actors tweeted their memories of the late star.

Meanwhile, Sameh Alsraiti، a remarkable leading star in Egypt, published through his account on “Facebook”, an obituary to the Egyptian great star Marzouk, who was his colleague.

Alsraiti، wrote: “We lost one of Egypt’s cinematography prominent figures.”

“His spunky spirit and zest for life will never be forgotten. Rest in peace,” Fatima Naut, an Egyptian writer tweeted.

 He is known for joint collaborations and associations with legendary Egyptian filmmakers like the remarkable director Hussain El-Emam and the magnificent Yossif Shahin.

Moreover, Marzouk is well-known for some of his seminal works, such as The Emigrant (1994), 'Al Tawous' (1982), and Alexandria: Again and Forever (1989).

He was married to a Journalist and writer called Awatef Sadek, and they over four decades had only one child.
