Venice is considering a significant increase in its tourist entry fee, with newly elected mayor Simone Venturini proposing charges of up to €50 for day-trippers on selected dates.

The proposal would raise the current fee from €5–€10 to between €30 and €50 during peak periods as the city seeks to manage overtourism and reduce pressure on its historic centre.

Currently, short-term visitors to Venice pay €10 on designated days through the end of July, while those booking at least three days in advance receive a reduced €5 rate.

The plan has sparked debate in Italy, with supporters arguing higher fees could help protect Venice's fragile heritage, while critics warn they could discourage tourism and limit access to the iconic canal city.
