Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Tuesday accused the United States of attempting to undermine and interfere in Latin American states, saying U.S. President Donald Trump should focus on internal American problems rather than what he described as aggressive policies toward the region.
In a statement, Maduro said Washington has a long history of seeking to impose its influence on Latin American countries, including Venezuela, through political pressure, economic sanctions, and threats of intervention.
He stressed that Venezuela is a sovereign state and will not accept what he characterized as attempts to destabilize its government.
Maduro’s remarks come amid renewed rhetoric in U.S. political circles regarding Latin America, which Venezuelan officials view as part of broader efforts to reassert U.S. dominance in the region. Caracas has repeatedly warned against any form of foreign intervention, accusing Washington of supporting measures that harm the Venezuelan people.
Relations between Venezuela and the United States remain deeply strained, with years of diplomatic tensions, sanctions, and sharp exchanges reflecting broader disagreements over governance, sovereignty, and regional influence in Latin America.
