The Venezuelan government announced a nationwide state of emergency on Saturday, citing what it described as a “large-scale U.S. military attack” that allegedly targeted several regions across the country, including the capital, Caracas.
According to official statements, the reported attack occurred in the early hours of the morning and was accompanied by loud explosions and the sound of aircraft flying overhead in multiple areas.
President Nicolás Maduro said in a formal address that Venezuela was facing a “very serious military aggression” by the United States.
He announced the activation of national emergency and defense plans and called on all social, political, and popular forces to take part in a “comprehensive mobilization” to defend the country and safeguard its sovereignty.
In a separate statement, the Venezuelan government said the alleged strikes hit four different regions, including Caracas.
