At least 18 Mexican tourists were killed and 24 others injured when the bus boarded them fell into a valley in the western Mexican state of Nayarit, according to Sky News.
Civil Protection official Pedro Nunez said the bus of a private company was transporting tourists from Guadalajara in the neighboring state of Jalisco to the beaches of Guayabitos in Nayarit when it veered off the road and plunged into a valley.
Nunez added that all the passengers are Mexicans, and the cause of the accident that occurred on Saturday is not yet known.
However, last Tuesday, four Colombians were killed and four others injured after the car they were traveling inbound for the United States was fired several times at a checkpoint for suspected criminals in the Mexican state of Zacatecas, according to local Mexican authorities.
"La Nacion", a Mexican newspaper, indicated that the events took place in the municipality of Villa de Cos, and the authorities confirmed that an organized criminal group attacked the victim's car that was traveling on the highway.
