The Vatican announced today the dismissal of its former ambassador to the United States Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, after finding him guilty of schism.
The Italian news agency ANSA reported that the Vatican’s dismissal of Vigano is an inevitable end for the controversial conservative who has become one of the most ardent critics of Pope Francis.
The Vatican explained - in a statement, Friday, that the imposition of the punishment on Archbishop came after a meeting of its members yesterday.
In its decision, the Vatican cited Vigano's refusal "to recognize and submit to the Supreme Pontiff, his refusal to communicate with members of the Church subject to him, and his rejection of the legitimacy and judicial authority of the Second Vatican Council."
