The Valley of the Kings in Luxor was chosen as one of the world’s most touristy places by Mark Jones, a travel writer at the Independent.

In his article, Jones mentioned other touristic destinations around the world and explained the reasons for visiting such hotspots.

About Egypt, Jones, said: "The many calamities that have been visited on this country in the past decade means the Luxor hotels and Nile boats are pretty empty. You have a positive duty to hang out for a day with a guide and buy an authentic alabaster pot (just like the ones Tutankhamen had).

Meantime, Tourism Minister Dr. Rania Al-Mashat said: "It is in our destinations that stories are to be found and discovered. #Egypt's Valley of the Kings featured across global publications as one of the top sites to visit."

The Valley of Kings is the ancient burial ground of many of Egypt's New Kingdom rulers since around 2100 BC. Visitors can tour tombs of King Tutankhamun and King Ramses IV there.

The Latin Quarter in Paris, the Peak and the Star Ferry, Hong Kong, Torremolinos, Spain, Jemaa el-Fnaa in Morocco, China's Macau, Italy's Venice, the Circle Line in New York, and Las Ramblas in Barcelona came also in the list.
