Today, Monday, the US State Department announced the suspension of $700 million in aid to Sudan, against the backdrop of declaring a state of emergency across the country and dissolving the Transitional Sovereign Council and the government.

" State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a press statement that The United States of America (USA) is temporarily suspending $700 million in emergency aid to Sudan."

Price noted that the purpose of these funds was to support the country's democratic transition.

"Any change in the transitional government by force would risk our assistance to Sudan and bilateral relations," Price warned, reiterating the call for the release of Sudanese Prime Minister Abdulla Hamdok and other detained officials.

The  US State Department spokesman  added that  the USA  has no information about the presence of conditions of Prime Minister Abdulla Hamdok's detention."

Price explained that the US Department of State has reported that Hamdok was arrested from his home, and the military are responsible for his health and safety, and we will hold them accountable for any harm to civilian leaders.

He stressed the need for the army not to resort to violence and to work to protect the right to demonstrate.

Price stressed that the USA  is communicating with its partners and allies in the region and coordinating messages and actions according to what is happening in Sudan.

It is worth noting that earlier today, Monday, the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced a state of emergency throughout the country and the dissolution of the Transitional Sovereign Council and the government, pledging to form a government of competencies to manage the transitional phase in the country.

In a speech to the people, Al-Burhan affirmed commitment to the constitutional document, until the formation of a government of national competencies that takes into account the fair representation of the people of Sudan before the end of November 2023.
