The United States of America (USA) announced, Monday evening, that "a new truce has been reached in Sudan for a period of 72 hours, starting at midnight."

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, on his Twitter account, that "the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have agreed to implement a nationwide ceasefire, which begins at midnight on April 24 and lasts 72 hours."

Blinken added the United States appeals to both warring parties to immediately and fully implement the cease-fire.

For its part, the Rapid Support Forces said, in a statement, that it "has agreed to a humanitarian truce for a period of 72 hours, starting at midnight tonight, based on mediation from the United States of America, in order to open humanitarian corridors and facilitate the movement of citizens and residents and enable them to fulfill their needs and reach Hospitals and safe areas, and the evacuation of diplomatic missions.

And the US Secretary of State confirmed, earlier yesterday, that he had "directed the temporary suspension of the work of the American embassy in Sudan."
