Following an armed clash between gunmen and Kosovo police in northern Kosovo, the United States is calling on Serbia to withdraw its substantial military presence along the border with Kosovo.

The incident has heightened tensions between Kosovo's Serb and Albanian communities, prompting the UK to send additional troops to assist NATO peacekeepers in the area.

NATO has expressed its readiness to address the escalating situation, particularly after a confrontation at a monastery resulted in casualties.

Kosovo's government has accused Serbia of supporting the attack and presented evidence of a significant weapons arsenal.

The US is concerned about the "destabilizing" deployment of tanks and artillery by Serbia and is urging a swift withdrawal of these forces from the border.

Efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region are being closely monitored by the international community.
