US President Joe Biden revealed on Monday that the US plans to share extra 20 million vaccines with other countries to raise the total number of US donated vaccines to 80 million.

The decision came as part of "American leadership" in the world fight against COVID-19. The doses will be produced by the end of June from various firms such as AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna.

"This will be more vaccines than any country has actually shared today, five times more than any other country," Biden revealed in his speech on Monday.

US initiative came after Russia and China pledged to share millions of doses with countries that suffer from worsening situations.

He added: "Russia and China... have donated 15 million doses. You know there's a lot of talk about Russia and China influencing the world with vaccines. We want to lead the world with our values," he said.

The latest US move reflected the diplomacy of vaccine contest among the world powers.
