The Israeli military said on Saturday that the US will deploy additional aerial refuelling aircraft to Israeli air bases as part of a military repositioning in the region.
According to the Israeli military, the move was coordinated with Israel and is intended to strengthen the existing fleet of refueling aircraft. It said the aircraft will operate from Israeli air bases for operational and logistical reasons while minimizing disruption to civilian air traffic.
Israeli media reported that Washington plans to send around 10 refueling aircraft as part of preparations for a possible escalation involving Iran, restoring US tanker aircraft numbers to levels seen during recent confrontations.
The deployment comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to rise following renewed US strikes on Iran and mutual accusations of violating previous agreements.
Iran has also announced strikes on US bases in the region in what it described as a retaliatory response.
