On Monday, the White House confirmed that coronavirus vaccination requirements for travelers to the United States and state employees will end on May 11.
"Today, we are announcing that the Administration will end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for Federal employees, Federal contractors, and international air travelers at the end of the day on May 11, the same day that the COVID-19 public health emergency ends,” a statement from the US presidency said.
More than a million people have died from the virus in the US, but the White House indicated that the outbreak had almost stopped, which led to the lifting of restrictions.
"Since January 2021, deaths have decreased by 95% and hospitalizations by about 91%," the White House added.
In addition to ending mandatory vaccinations, President Joe Biden announced in April that he was formally calling for an end to the national health emergency that for more than 3 years had justified extraordinary government measures.
