The United States announced on Saturday the suspension of all visitor visas for individuals arriving from Gaza.
The US State Department posted on X that all visitor visas for people from Gaza have been halted.
The department added that the decision comes amid a full and comprehensive review of the processes and procedures used to issue a limited number of visas for medical and humanitarian purposes in recent days.
According to an analysis of monthly figures published on the US State Department website, more than 3,800 B1 and B2 visitor visas, which allow foreigners to receive medical treatment in the US, were issued to holders of travel documents from the Palestinian Authority.
Reuters reported that this included 640 visas issued in May.
The move follows remarks on social media by far-right activist Laura Loomer, an ally of former President Donald Trump, on Friday.
The decision comes as Gaza faces a severe humanitarian crisis. The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights reported on Friday that at least 1,760 Palestinians were killed while waiting for aid in Gaza in late May.
