A US official has said American forces carried out strikes against approximately 20 targets inside Iran in response to the reported downing of a US Apache attack helicopter.

According to media reports, the military operation was launched as part of what Washington described as its right to self-defense following the incident involving the helicopter.

The official stated that the strikes were a direct response to Iran's alleged role in bringing down the US military aircraft while it was conducting a mission in the region.

He said the operation was intended to address the attack and demonstrate the United States' readiness to respond to actions targeting its forces.

The official did not provide specific details regarding the locations of the targets, the nature of the facilities struck, or the extent of the damage caused by the operation.

He confirmed, however, that the military action had concluded and that no further strikes were underway at the time of his remarks.

The reported attacks mark a significant escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, amid an already volatile security environment in the Middle East.

Neither the US Department of Defense nor Iranian authorities immediately released detailed information regarding the operation, casualties, or potential consequences of the strikes.
