US Stresses Need to Complete Democratic Transition in Sudan

The United States (US) stressed on Wednesday the need to complete the democratic transition in Sudan. 

This came during a phone call between Sudanese Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) and US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee.

During the phone call, Dagalo gave a detailed explanation to the US Secretary of State on the political situation in the country, praising the great interest attached by the US government to Sudan.

 

He expressed his hope that the US would continue its efforts to assist the country in moving forward with the democratic transition process.

 

Moreover, the Sudanese official stressed that the way out of the political crisis in the country lies in initiating a comprehensive dialogue that leads to a national consensus.

On her part, Phee stressed the US’s keenness to cooperate and coordinate with the Sudanese government, in order to ensure a successful transitional phase and achieve a democratic transformation.

She also expressed her country’s and the international community’s readiness to provide everything that would help the Sudanese to achieve stability and democratic transformation.
