US State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott emphasized that the ceasefire agreement currently on the negotiation table between the Lebanese and Israeli governments is fair and will contribute to achieving peace and prosperity if implemented.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath news channel on Tuesday, Pigott stated that, based on the latest talks, an agreement is on the table and has been approved by both the Lebanese and Israeli governments. He added that the decision now rests with Hezbollah.
"Hezbollah must choose between continuing to fight a futile war that pushes the Lebanese people into further conflict, or agreeing to return to the path of peace and prosperity, allowing people to return to their homes," Pigott said.
He further noted that the fundamental point is that the legitimate representative of the Lebanese people has agreed to the deal, and therefore the United States looks forward to continuing these talks.
Pigott concluded by stating that the United States is working to enable people to return to their homes, solidify Lebanon's sovereignty, and simultaneously ensure security for Israel, demanding that Hezbollah cease fire and hand over its weapons to the Lebanese government.
