Senator Jack Reed, a prominent Democratic member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has voiced his opposition to a preemptive U.S. strike on Iran, labeling such an action a "strategic mistake."
In a press statement, Reed argued that launching a preemptive attack at this time would be a grave error, expressing concern that "such recklessness could ignite an out-of-control conflict."
Moreover, he noted that military strikes against Iran could trigger a broader regional war, endangering U.S. forces stationed across the Middle East and destabilizing global markets in ways that would harm everyday Americans.
"Despite requests from myself and others, I have seen no credible proposal from the administration regarding the strategic objectives of any military action against Iran, the logistics of executing such an operation, or what a 'day after' plan would look like," Reed continued.
He concluded that "the American people do not want another costly war, especially when diplomatic and economic tools remain capable of achieving our goals without putting American lives at risk."
