U.S. Senate Republican Leader in Hospital after Fall

US Republican Senator Mitch McConnell was taken to the hospital, after he fell during a private dinner, according to his spokesman

"McConnell was caught this evening at a local hotel during a private dinner and was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment," a spokesman said in a statement.

No additional information was provided about his condition or the accident.

McConnell is currently the Republican minority leader in the Senate. When he was head of the majority, he worked in close coordination with former President Donald Trump, especially to appoint conservative justices to the Supreme Court. It required Senate confirmation, which allowed the body to overturn women's right to abortion.

The 81-year-old Kentucky senator has been president of the Senate since 2007 and is a major opponent of President Joe Biden on a number of legislative issues.
