The US Senate has shortly rejected the Republican lawmakers' move to halt the planned impeachment trial of the country's former president, Donald Trump, saying that it is unconstitutional.

It was an attempt by Rand Paul. Only 5 Republicans voted against it.

The Senate also announced that the second Trump impeachment trial to get underway in the US Senate on February 8th.

Last week, White House spokeswoman Jane Saki said that US President Joe Biden would leave the mechanisms of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial to the Senate.

In a statement, she added, “We are confident that the Senate can fulfill its constitutional duty while continuing to conduct the business of the American people.”

Earlier this month, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that former President Donald Trump’s impeachment confirmed that,’ No one in the country is above the law.’
