Republican members of the US Senate, the upper chamber of Congress, blocked Wednesday evening a request submitted by the White House to approve an emergency aid package worth $106 billion, primarily benefiting Ukraine and Israel.
Republican Senators linked their refusal to okay the aid to the failure to provide immigration reforms.
Republicans linked the vote on aid proposals to moving forward with the adoption of reforms to the immigration policy pursued by the Democratic administration.
Thwarting the package aid represents a severe defeat for President Joe Biden.
Biden had warned US Congress that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not stop at the borders of Ukraine, as he could go into a confrontation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO) which is led by the United States of America(USA).
