The US Senate (the higher chamber of Congress) has approved a legislative initiative that provides for the confiscation of the assets of some Russian businessmen in the United States (US) to sell them and transfer their proceeds to Kyiv through humanitarian and military aid, according to Russia Today.
The legislative text asserts that US President Joe Biden must take all the required steps to seize within the jurisdiction of the United States the assets of foreigners who have made their money partly through corruption and support of the Russian authorities, some of which belong to the Russian people and businessmen whom Washington accuses of providing support to the Russian authorities.
The draft law indicates that these measures must be taken against assets worth two million dollars or more, including those of Russian energy companies.
The draft stipulates that these assets must be sold, and the proceeds used to provide military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, help Ukrainian refugees, and use these funds for humanitarian assistance and the Russian people in the fields of democracy, human rights programs, and their monitoring.
