US Secretary of State Visits Haiti, Dominican Republic

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to visit Haiti and the Dominican Republic from September 5 to 6.

During his visit, Blinken will meet with the coordinator of Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council, Edgar Leblanc Fils, and Prime Minister Garry Conille to discuss the next steps in Haiti's democratic transition. They will also address U.S. support for the Haitian people through humanitarian aid and stabilization efforts led by Haiti.

Additionally, Blinken will meet with the leadership of the Multinational Security Support Mission, reaffirming U.S. support for restoring security in Haiti and emphasizing the importance of enhancing human rights.

In the Dominican Republic, Blinken will meet with President Luis Abinader to reinforce the "close and long-standing" partnership between the two nations. They will discuss inclusive economic growth, strengthening human rights, promoting good governance, security, and climate resilience in the region, including through the U.S.-Caribbean partnership to address the climate crisis and the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.
