US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to discuss the latest developments in the negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.
According to a statement issued by the US Department of State on Saturday, the Secretary of State praised the Lebanese President's courage in pursuing a historic opportunity for Lebanese sovereignty and recovery.
Rubio reaffirmed the United States' full support for the Lebanese government's efforts aimed at establishing a fully sovereign Lebanese state that coexists in peace with all its neighbors.
He emphasized that the bilateral negotiations between Lebanon and Israel represent the only credible path toward reconstruction, economic recovery, and ending the recurring cycles of violence.
The two sides also discussed the upcoming round of negotiations, scheduled to take place from June 23 to 25 in Washington.
Furthermore, Rubio reiterated the necessity of disarming Hezbollah and restoring state control over the entirety of Lebanese territory.
