The Foreign Ministry in Seoul said on Thursday that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will visit South Korea next week and will hold a meeting with his counterpart, Cho Tae-yul, on Monday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lim Soo-suk said in a press conference that Blinken will attend the third democracy summit hosted by South Korea, which will be held from Monday to Wednesday.

The meeting between Cho and Blinken will be the second within a month, as the two allied countries intensify their efforts to improve their ability to implement what is called “extended deterrence” in an effort to confront the security threats posed by North Korea.

The office of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yul announced that discussions are scheduled to be held under the title "Democracy for Future Generations" at the summit, which will be attended by foreign ministers, other senior officials and civil society leaders.
