US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin begins his trip to the Middle East which includes Israel, Bahrain, and Qatar, on a mission aimed at pushing Israel to establish specific frameworks for the war.
Austin is going to discuss the hostage issue, in addition to discussing the risks related to the Houthi
threats to navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and preventing the outbreak of a broader regional war.
Austin wrote on the “X” website, saying: “He is heading to Israel, Bahrain, and Qatar to affirm the United States’ commitments to strengthening regional security and stability, and to work with partners and allies to enhance defense capabilities.” General Charles Brown Jr., Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, is participating in the visit, where he participates in discussions with the leaders of the Israeli war government.
Austin's visit to Israel is the second since the October 7 attacks, and it comes in the wake of the visit of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Biden's Middle East advisor Brett McGurk to Israel last Thursday, where Sullivan backed down from setting a timetable for the Israeli war in Gaza.
