This came during a meeting with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Khalid bin Salman, in Washington on Monday evening.
Hegseth emphasized that the U.S.-Saudi relationship serves as a strategic pillar in a volatile region and reassured that the "America First" policy does not imply abandoning its allies.
For his part, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman reaffirmed that the relationship between Riyadh and Washington has always been vital and is even more critical in the current phase, given the ongoing instability in the region.
Prince Khalid bin Salman's visit marks the first official visit by a Saudi official since the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss mutual concerns.
