The United States has lifted flight restrictions over the Caribbean region, allowing air traffic to resume after a temporary closure imposed earlier this weekend, according to US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
In a statement posted on social media late Saturday, Duffy said the Federal Aviation Administration had removed the restrictions as of midnight Eastern Time, clearing the way for airlines to restart operations across the Caribbean airspace. He added that carriers had been notified and were expected to update their flight schedules swiftly.
Passengers whose journeys were affected were advised to stay in contact with their airlines for the latest information, as companies work to restore normal services.
The announcement did not address restrictions previously imposed on airspace over Venezuela, which remain subject to separate aviation safety measures.
The reopening of Caribbean airspace is expected to ease disruptions to regional and international travel, particularly for flights connecting North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.
