US gave Sudan 24 hours to make its final decision regarding removing its name from the State Sponsors of Terrorism (SST) list and normalizing relations with Israel, according to local media reports.
The Trump Administration is putting pressure on Sudan to normalize ties with Israel for the removal of its country from (SST) list along with financial aid from the Gulf states.
A meeting held in Abu Dhabi last month, to normalize relations between Khartoum and Tel Aviv, attended by Sudanese, U.S. and Emirati officials ended without agreement.
Now, whether we like it or not, the removal (of Sudan from the terror list) is tied to (normalization) with Israel,” the deputy head of the council, Gen. Mohammed Dagalo, told a local television station on Friday,2 October.
“We need Israel ... Israel is a developed country and the whole world is working with it,” Dagalo added. “We will have benefits from such relations ... We hope all look at Sudan’s interests.”
The ultimate goal is making Khartoum establish diplomatic ties with Israel before the US presidential election in November.
US offered to remove Sudan from ‘travel ban’ list under Executive Order 9983 issued last January, announcing its intention to facilitate private investment in Sudan through introducing the necessary amendments to the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act of 2006, in addition to hosting an investment conference in Sudan with its allies.
The offer also mentioned that Washington pledged to provide wheat, medicine and other aid to Sudan, as well as to write off 3 billion dollars of its debts owed to the US by the fiscal year which begins in October 2021.
