President Joe Biden underwent surgery for removing a small skin lesion with cancerous tissue from his chest, White House Physician Dr. Kevin O'Connor announced on Friday.
The lesion was discovered during Biden's physical exam in February and "no further treatment is required," O'Connor said.
The tissue was excised during a procedure at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland and sent for a traditional biopsy.
And, it was confirmed that the lesion was basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.
The White House Physician added: "All cancerous tissue was successfully removed," O'Connor said.
O'Connor noted that basal cell carcinoma lesions do not typically spread such as some more serious skin cancers like melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma.
He also said that he is "healed nicely" and doctors would continue to monitor his health.
