The United States has announced a $50 million funding package to support the development of medical countermeasures against the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola linked to the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The US State Department said the funding will be provided in coordination with Congress and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations to support laboratory research, clinical trials, and the manufacturing of potential treatments and preventive measures.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at accelerating the development of safe and effective medical tools to combat the virus and strengthen efforts to contain the outbreak.
The funding forms part of a broader US-led response to protect public health and assist communities affected by the Ebola epidemic in Central Africa.
