U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Miami on Saturday.
According to a report by the American news site Axios, the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to reach an agreement to end the war with Iran.
The report indicated that the meeting took place as the United States and Iran negotiate a one-page memorandum aimed at ending the war and establishing a framework for more detailed negotiations.
It also highlighted that Qatar is playing a pivotal role in mediating between the two sides.
As of Saturday evening, the United States was still awaiting Iran's final response.
Moreover, Axios noted that while Pakistan has served as the official mediator between the U.S. and Iran since the beginning of the conflict, the Qataris have been working extensively behind the scenes.
U.S. officials stated that the White House considers the Qataris to be particularly effective actors in the negotiations with Iran.
