U.S. Official Says IRGC Fired Missiles Toward Commercial Ships

A commercial tanker caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing off the coast of Oman, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said on Tuesday, adding that no injuries or environmental damage had been reported.

The British maritime agency said the vessel sustained the impact while transiting waters off Oman but did not immediately identify the source of the projectile or provide further details on the incident.

Separately, Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired two missiles toward commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the report, the two vessels sustained significant damage, but no casualties were reported.

The reports could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from Iranian authorities on the allegations.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical shipping lanes for global energy supplies.
