US Lawmaker Joe Wilson Criticizes Israeli Military Strategy in Syria, Warning of Long-Term Security Risks

US Congressman Joe Wilson, a staunch Republican supporter of Israel and founder of the Pro-Israel Republican Caucus, has raised serious concerns over Israel’s escalating military operations in Syria. In a public statement, Wilson warned that Tel Aviv's current path could backfire, ultimately harming its own long-term strategic interests.

"As a lifelong friend of Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu, I am deeply concerned by Israel's ongoing aggressive operations in Syria, particularly in recent days," Congressman Wilson shared on his social media accounts.

Divergence from US Policy Goals

Wilson characterized the current military escalations as "irresponsible," arguing that they run directly counter to the regional objectives of the current US administration under President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack.

According to the lawmaker, these aggressive actions complicate efforts to eliminate the malignant influence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the region. "Occupying Syrian territory and attacking Syrian cities will harm Israel in the long run and must stop immediately," Wilson emphasized.

A Contrast in Regional Diplomacy

In contrast to his criticism of Tel Aviv, Wilson praised the Trump administration's ongoing diplomatic strategy in the Middle East. He highlighted Washington's efforts in confronting Iran and its proxies, mediating peace talks between Israel and Lebanon, and offering Syria a fresh start by lifting sanctions imposed during the previous regime.

Wilson noted that these diplomatic maneuvers have already delivered substantial security dividends for Israel. He pointed out that Syria is actively shutting down Hezbollah's logistical networks within its borders, and the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has entirely withdrawn from the country.

 Calls for a Non-Aggression Pact

The congressman also commended the "foresight and openness" of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and the new Syrian leadership regarding their willingness to build positive relations with Israel. Wilson noted that Syria has not launched any attacks against Israel under the current leadership and has formally pledged not to allow its territory to be used as a staging ground against neighboring states.

To secure these gains, Wilson called for a formal non-aggression pact between Damascus and Tel Aviv. He asserted that such an agreement offers a genuine opportunity to achieve lasting regional stability, which would also safeguard vulnerable minority populations, including the Druze communities in both Syria and Israel.

Egyptian Billionaire Naguib Sawiris Eyes Syria Real Estate Boom to Curb Skyrocketing Prices

Prominent Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris has publicly addressed the housing crisis in Syria, advocating for a massive expansion of residential construction to combat surging real estate prices. The billionaire developer confirmed he is actively exploring major investment opportunities within the country's urban property market.

Responding to a viral social media post highlighting the exorbitant cost of living in Syria, Sawiris posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Increasing supply and expanding construction activity drives competition and lowers prices. We are coming."

The original post by a Syrian citizen detailed how a standard 100-square-meter apartment in the Dummar project costs Syrian expatriates the savings of a lifetime. The user noted that while the actual cost of land and construction does not exceed $60,000, these units are sold at massive markups, yielding profit margins close to 150%.

High-Level Investment Talks

Sawiris’s public commitment follows a series of high-level meetings in Damascus. The Egyptian mogul was recently received by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa at the People's Palace to map out future economic cooperation and investment frameworks.

Sawiris also held a technical meeting with Syria's Minister of Public Works and Housing, Mustafa Abdel Razek. According to an official statement from the ministry, Sawiris presented his company’s extensive global track record in real estate development, expressing a strong desire to execute inclusive housing projects that accommodate various social segments while training local talent.

Minister Abdel Razek welcomed the prospective partnership, emphasizing the importance of leveraging international expertise to fulfill Syria's reconstruction plans, resolve the current housing deficit, and revive stalled infrastructure projects.
