The US has issued a worldwide security alert urging American citizens to exercise increased caution as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.

In a statement, the State Department warned that the security environment remains volatile and that US diplomatic facilities, interests and citizens worldwide could face an increased risk of attack.

The advisory comes as the US military said it had completed a tenth consecutive night of strikes on Iranian military command centers, missile launch sites, naval assets and air defense systems.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it had targeted US military positions, including air defense systems in Bahrain and Kuwait, and reported stopping two oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would face severe retaliation for any attacks on American troops. The Pentagon said around 100 US service members have been injured since the latest escalation began, with most having returned to duty.

Meanwhile, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that mediators had proposed a 10-day ceasefire aimed at easing hostilities and creating space to revive a temporary agreement reached last month.
